AEA srl – Loccioni Group
Loccioni Group is a system of companies that supplies the world of industry with key solutions for assembly, testing and quality control. It has 400 employees, with a turnover of 70 M€ in 2013 and operates in 40 countries worldwide. Loccioni headquarter is in Italy, but it has three international branch offices located in Germany, USA and China. 5% of the turnover is invested in R&D activities.
Loccioni Group works in synergy with Universities and Research Centres to develop and set up hi-technology content “all inclusive” systems, integrating its skills in measurement and testing, robotics, automation and ICT on several fields among which are Automotive, Household-appliances, Environment, Energy Saving and Health.
Loccioni has great experience in European Commission research projects with currently 6 projects running. GRACE and ECHORD (InterAID experiment, www.echord.info/wikis/website/interaid) are some of the successfully concluded projects in which Loccioni was involved.
Since 2005, Loccioni Group has integrated almost 200 robots. Industrial robots are used by Loccioni to perform pick and place operations, but mainly to develop flexible quality control solutions (robots can move the product towards the measurement system or moving testing equipment around the product):
Video #1 (Injectors.mp4) shows an industrial robot placing an injector in front of an high resolution camera with a powerful lighting system in order to make quality checks on it.
Video #2 (Vispee.mp4) shows Vispee (http://research.loccioni.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Vispee.pdf), an industrial robot that moves a vision system composed by cameras and illuminators along a predefined path in order to take images for verifying the correct components assembly. The key feature of this application is that the robot does not stop in each inspection position, but images are acquired and analysed while the robot is moving (this permits to minimize the cycle time of the visual check).
