As one of the founding members of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, the Manufacturing Technology Centre’s aim is to develop and promote world class manufacturing processes and techniques for UK industries. Working from a state of the art research facility its expertise in intelligent automation and manufacturing systems will be invaluable in solving the significant problems of creating a flexible manufacturing system. www.the-mtc.org

MTC is a Research member of the MTC-LU-UoB-Airbus Challenger Team. MTC is the lead partner in the consortium, and will provide systems integration, expertise in aerospace assembly, and lead T3 on Field Tests.

The MTC’s Intelligent Automation team draws on over 200 person years of industrial automation experience across a wide range of industries. Recent examples are the lead demonstration of the FP7 LOCOMACHS project, advanced industrial robotic controls (including ROS-Industrial), metrology assisted robotics, and the application of robotics to complex fabrications and assembly tasks. MTC has over £5 million of industrial scale automation hardware for development and demonstration work, including the Shadow Robot hand that will be integrated on the test platform for this challenge.
