Schällibaum AG
Engineers and Architects

The Schällibaum AG is a family business with 80 employees and provides Civil Engineering, Geomatics and Architectural Services from the sites Wattwil and Herisau in eastern Switzerland. The company was founded 50 years ago and the range of services covers a wide range from consulting and project planning to the realization of buildings, structures and facilities. Our geomatics team provides before and during the construction projects accurate survey data, the basis for perfect engineering and architectural services. Starting with the creation of digital, three-dimensional terrain models, surveying of large construction sites to automated structural health monitoring and programming of high-precision machine control systems. Through the innovative use of the latest technologies, we optimize the construction processes. Since three years, we use the MAV technology in the geomatics division to generate simple aerial photo- and video-shootings over photogrammetric surveys up to complex inspection images for civil engineering and architectural purposes.

SLB is an End User in the TUM-Flyers Team. SLB has defined the use case of bridge inspection by flying robots. For the successful implementation of this project, SLB takes the role in the Challenger team as a consulter, which designs the inspection tasks. It supports and advises the Computer Vision Group at TU Munich in the field of definition of inspection tasks and their requirements, e.g. how an inspection of an infrastructure facility (e.g. bridge) can look like and what results should emerge there. The company provides the access to the reference object and fosters the contact with the property owner.

SLB has extensive experience in the field of bridge inspections. The organization and carrying out of inspections and their evaluation are a core business area of SLB. For several years, the company also uses MAV technology for the inspections of infrastructure facilities. Thus, it also has an experience with handling of MAVs and also knows the difficulties in the use of MAVs during inspection tasks.
