Jozef Stefan Institute (JSI) is the leading Slovene research organization. It is responsible for a broad spectrum of basic and applied research in the fields of natural sciences and engineering. The staff of around 1000 specializes in research in electronics and information science, physics, chemistry and biochemistry, nuclear technology, energy utilization, and environmental science. JSI will take part in project through the Department of Automatics, Biocybernetics, and Robotics. The basic impetus of the group is to study properties of human motion, sensorimotor control, and perception to create robots with human-like capabilities. The main goal is to apply these new systems to various industrial and nonindustrial applications, especially to improve industrial production processes, aid people in home environments and other service tasks.
Department for Automatics, Biocybernetis and Robotics has a long tradition in both research and applicative robotics.
It is and has been a member of ongoing and finished EU cognitive robotics consortiums, such as Xperience, PACO+, Intellact, A_CAT. Research in the listed projects resulted in the development of numerous novel control algorithms, including algorithms for autonomous acquisition of trajectories and compliant task-specific torque control of robots.
Industrial applications range from teapackaging lines (with Droge Portorož, Slovenia), robotized glass-works (Steklarna Hrastnik, Slovenia), to industrial assembly (Yaskawa nternational, Japan).
