The Department of Computer Science at Tallinn University of Technology has long-term experience in solving problems in the field of robotics stemming from the area of humanmachine interaction and multi-robot system coordination, e.g., development of a scrubnurse robot, rehabilitation supervision systems and control of robot swarms.
Currently, mobile manipulation is a nascent research focus in the context of assistive and cognitive robotics. The computer science team cooperates with researchers from Mechatronics department who have practical expertise in the field of computer vision and outdoors terrain exploration using UAVs and UGVs.
The solutions developed so far have a strong bias towards algorithms of artificial and computational intelligence. Our team has expertise in all aforementioned areas and is sufficiently experienced to participate in the challenge.
Prof. Jüri Vain is an expert on model-based planning and coordination algorithms (EU FP6 Roboswarm project, Scrub-nurse robot project in collaboration Centre of Excellence on Human-adaptive Mechatronics at Tokyo Denki University).
Dr. Sven Nõmm is a specialist on human motion recognition methods for rehabilitation and human-robot interaction (principal of two national research projects).
PhD students Gert Kanter and Evelin Halling are doing research on collaborative robotics, cognitive robotics and autonomous mobile manipulation.
