Team Profile:

The team is composed by ASCAMM and University of VIC (Barcelona). The industrial Robotics Department of ASCAMM Technology Centre focuses on human-machine collaboration and workspace perception and robot modelling calibration and simulation. The research lines of the Digital Technologies Department of University of Vic focuses on different aspects of Mechatronics, Modelling and Materials (MECAMAT SGR research group) and different aspects of data and digital signal processing (DSP SGR research group). The team is composed by the following members:

Moisès Serra (PhD) Electronic Engineer and Ph.D (2005) on Computer Science from the UAB-Barcelona Tech. Associate Professor at the University of Vic. His research interests include Mechatronic Systems, embedded Systems and its applications. He is a member of the MECAMAT Research Group the Associated Unit of UVic.

Pere Marti-Puig (PhD) M.Sc. and Ph.D (2001) in Telecommunication Engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC-Barcelona Tech). He is Associate Professor at the University of Vic. His research interests include multidimensional signal processing and their applications. He is a member of the Digital Technologies Group and belong to the Associated Research Unit UVIC-UPC-ICM(CSIC)-IMEDEA(CSIC).

Gerard Masferrer (PhD candidate) graduated in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering (2010), M.Sc. in Digital Technologies (2011) and Ph.D candidat on mechatronics from University of Vic. Teaching Assistant in the Department of Digital Technologies of University of Vic. His research interests are in robotics, mechatronics and software engineering.

Daniel Martin (M.Sc.) B.Sc in Electronics and Automation (2008) and M.Eng in Mechanics (2012) from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). Professional experience in the setup and commissioning of Airplanes Assistance Ground Equipment of Barcelona’s Airport and in the design and setup of instrumentation and control areas for solar thermal power and desalination plants. He currently leads ASCAMM R&D lines in the field of Industrial Robotics and Mechatronics.

Jordi Ribatallada Diez (M.Sc.) Industrial Engineer specialized in Electro-Mechanics. Currently leading the Equipments, Automation and Mechatronics Unit in Ascamm. More than 13 years of industrial experience, including research in soft materials milling using anthropomorphic robots. Deep knowledge of industrial manufacturing processes, equipments and automation processes.

The team will cover both tracks of Challenge 1. ASCAMM will contribute with its extended experience in industrial robot modeling, calibration, simulation and off-line programming applied to different robot-based industrial processes, such Incremental Sheet Forming or 3D rapid prototyping of personalized parts. Some reference projects of ASCAMM are CALIROB (own calibration technology based on a computer vision system and complex algorithms developed), SIMPRO (development of a tool based on interactive 3D graphics and Virtual Reality techniques for quickly building machines or industrial processes simulators in any sector and type to train workers to handle them), INARAS-CleanSky (designing and integrating an automated system, including robotics, advancing sensing and mechanical integrations to adapt the riblet head developed by Fraunhofer IFAM including off-line programming and complex system manipulation), ICARUS-FP7 (Responsible of integration of search and Rescue platforms based on ROS framework). The UVIC will contribute with its knowledge on kinematics and dynamics of robotic arms for trajectories control and analysis (work presented in CCIA 13 congress – attachment) and on different aspects of data and signal processing, including fast algorithm development, 2 and 3 dimensional shape analysis and signal processing applied to mechatronics
