Europea Microfusioni Aerospaziali S.p.a.(EMA), is a world class investment castings foundry, part of the Rolls-Royce Group, and located in Morra De Sanctis (Avellino – Italy). EMA employs about 500 people to produce high technology components, HP/ IP Turbine Blades, LP Turbine Nozzle Guide Vanes and Engine components in Ni/Co based superalloys, for civil and military turbojet engines and turbogas for the power generation sector. EMA production technique is named “investment casting” or “precision casting”. With this technique EMA is able to produce equiaxed (EQX), Directionally Solidified (DS) and Single Crystal (SX) components in high vacuum casting furnaces, Casting weight: from 10 grams to 40 kg.
As End User in the EUSMART Team, EMA will work on the showcase /pilot line requirements definition (Task 1 and Task 2) but it will focus on pilot line building up and debugging (Task 3).
EMA successfully took part in several (national and EU) R&D projects, also like a Public-Private-Partnership (IFaCOM, EU project FP7 NMP-FoF2011 – MATEMI, IT-MIUR project). Main area for R&D activities: materials, investment casting processes, automation, NDT.
