The Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems & Automation (LMS) is oriented on research and development in cutting edge scientific and technological fields. LMS is involved in a number of research projects funded by the CEU and European industrial partners. Particular emphasis is given to the co-operation with the European industry as well as with a number of "hi-tech" firms. LMS is under the direction and technical coordination of Professor George Chryssolouris. It currently employs approximately 70 researchers organized in three different groups: a) Manufacturing Processes Modelling and Energy Efficiency, b) Robots, Automation and Virtual Reality in Manufacturing and Manufacturing Systems. LMS is a Research member of the EUSMART Team. LMS is the challenger and is responsible for developing the envisioned solution, setting up the prototypes for testing and demonstration and delivering the reports for each Task.
LMS has been participating with a leading role in the following industrial robotics related projects:
FP6-MyCar project: cooperative robot programming, vision based sensing and Virtual Commissioning technology.
FP7-AUTORECON, scheduling and manufacturing execution software for the reconfiguration of mobile robots. FP7-X-act project: intuitive programming framework, dual arm robotic libraries, motions planning, human robot safe collaboration with industrial robots
FP7-COMET: accuracy of robotic structures using Finite Elements modelling in order to analyse the tolerance chain and develop techniques for its compensation.
FP7-ROBO-PARTNER: modelling and development of methods and tools for planning of human robot collaborative tasks, Augmented Reality for supporting human operators, Advanced Human Robot interaction through multi modal interfaces.
